Russell Simmons Is Trayvon Martin’s Parents’ BFF Now

I guess Russell Simmons is considered a leader in the black community in the way that Dora the Explorer is considered a leader in Hispanic community, because they both had a television show and a catchphrase I guess. Anyway, Trayvon Martin‘s parents went to visit Russell Simmons while in New York because he too wears hoodies or something. I don’t know actually. Radar Online reports:

Trayvon Martin’s parents Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton have found a friend in hip hop mogul Russell Simmons. The grieving parents and the music powerbroker crossed paths last week, Simmons told the New York Post during a recent Broadway showing of Leap of Faith. “As they came by my office during their short time in New York, I was able to see firsthand the strength of these two beautiful people,” the New York-based Simmons blogged on his site Global Grind about the meeting. “As a father, I could never understand the pain they have been feeling since [February] 26th. However, they have carried themselves with so much dignity and compassion, that it is no surprise that the [movement] for justice for their seventeen year old son has followed their lead.”

This is part where I would normally give Russell Simmons credit for doing this, but since this isn’t the kind of site we’re running here, let me just point out that this is the same Russell Simmons who defended Chris Brown after he beat the shit out of Rihanna. As you recall, he said that the media was too hard on him and he deserved a break. So based on that logic, if George Zimmerman was black and Trayvon Martin was a woman or white, Russell Simmons would probably have something different to say about this whole situation. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. Or maybe Russell Simmons is an idiot who is said that a black teenager never to got to grow to beat up a woman. Who’s to say really?

Russell Simmons Defends Chris Brown

[SinglePic not found]

In a blog posted today on Global Grind, Russell Simmons writes about having dinner with Chris Brown on Tuesday night. During that dinner, Simmons saw that Brown was just a delicate and fragile flower who just wants sing and dance but is unable to share his loving mesage with the world because of the evil media and white kids.

On why Chris Brown is the Messiah and the media is Dahmer trying to decapitate his chocolate, heavenly light:

On Tuesday night, I sat with Chris Brown, one of the greatest performing artists of his time, during his celebration dinner for the release of his new album, F.A.M.E. I know that this young man’s dancing, singing and art are his prayers. Without them, he’s left to deal with a cluttered world in a way that is far too complicated than he imagined when he was a thirteen-year-old kid with a dream of being famous. I am troubled by the people, critics and members of the media who drag Chris away from his art. His freedom is deeply rooted in his artistic expression. It is during those seconds of stillness when you’re dancing that the Christ/Buddha/Allah/Moses inside of you is awakened and comes to power. This is the freedom Chris knew as a child, but as he rose to fame, finding freedom became a lot more complicated. Coming back home is a very difficult thing. Coming back to being normal, coming back to that pure place of artistry. But, when fame snatches your freedom, the ability to control your own life becomes much more difficult.

Pancakes:

So, you end up eating pancakes in the bathtub. That’s all it’s worth to you. Eat pancakes in the bathtub, get your hair cut while you smoke a joint and wait for the phone to ring for some girl, some groupie that might show up. It’s a lot. And all the things you think you want, make you sick. People always want to say “well you got all that money and shit!” you “should” be happy. But, the mistake is to believe that money’s gonna make you happy. Most of the people reading this blog wish they had all these things that the artists have. Almost every one of you would have trouble dealing with them as well.

On why Chris Brown suffers from a double stanOOH OOH! THE KIDS DO IT TOO!!

And Chris is suffering from the same thing as almost every young star has gone through, including the Disney kids. And, having lost control, some of these young artists, sometimes, do an unspeakable thing at a moment of time. And they pay the price. But, as I and my team have said repeatedly on my site GlobalGrind.com, what’s not fair is artists paying the price of the sins in their young lives for the rest of their lives. Again, and again, and again. That’s just not fair. If we insisted on that there would be no art. There would be only shame; there would be no learning, no redemption, there would be no road for millions of fans to travel the journey of the artist to enlightenment. It would negate the very purpose of art itself which is to reconcile, through a redeeming journey, the intractable contradictions in life and society. This is something I have fought for all my life. And, you know, Disney kids are allowed a little bit more of a break. Sometimes you have to even feel sorry for them.

On why we should forgive Chris Brown. You know, like he did that window and Rihanna’s jaw:

I’m just saying, give this man a break. I spoke to him last night for a long time and I know how good of a young man he is. He’s having the same type of struggles that all those other Disney kids have and all the other people who have instant fame… And because of that one regretful incident, no one will give him a break. You can give them media coaches, but can you give them life coaches? A media coach is great, but a life coach is what he’s in need of. And my heart and my office door is always open to him.

First of all, let’s get something out of the way. I realize Russell Simmons is some sort of God in the black community greeted with reverence and mir wherever he goes, but since I don’t live in a mansion and wonder which one of my Maybachs I want to drive when I wake up, I have more in common with the black experience than Russell Simmons. There, I said it. Secondly, are you fucking kidding me right now? We’re supposed to feel sorry and have sympathy for Chris Brown. This is what you’re telling me? The same Chris Brown who beat his girlfriend unconscious for calling him out on texting his gay boyfriend. The same Chris Brown who wants to pretend nothing ever happened, and when he is thrown a softball question on GMA, he flies into a violent rage and destroys his dressing room. The same Chris Brown who would rather blame “haters” and the non-existent devil than look in the mirror and blame himself. The same Chris Brown who wakes up everyday having to decide which ho to Superman and which stack of hundreds to light his jeffrey with. Fuck him, and fuck you. Nobody is making his life any worse except him. His inability to control his anger and his absolute denial over their consequences pretty much took care of how he is perceived right now. Flashback two and half years and if he would have just walked away instead of showing Rihanna’s face how much he loved it, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. We may be talking about the new shoes I just recently purchased or how I think my cat is trying to poison me in my sleep. You never know, but I guess we’ll never find out huh, Russell?!

Russell Simmons is a Hot Stud

Russell Simmons has for years patted himself on the back for his supposed hardcore vegan and Eastern philosophy lifestyle, but what the hell. This looks like a staged photo-op to show “how great he looks for his age,” but all I’m thinking is, I know you have a billion solid 85 karat gold Buddhas and toilets in your house, but you’re not supposed to look like them, dude. Now go put on a shirt and get your ex-giraffe wife off my television.
