“After Dating Man ‘Who Was Not A Muslim'”

[SinglePic not found]

Hey, remember when I posted this story about Harry Potter actress, Afshan Azad, and I said it sounded like an attempted honor killing? And remember after that I got hate mail and death threats because I was an “ignorant faggot” and an “intolerant racist who perpetuates stereotypes”? Yeah, turns out it wasn’t me being those things. It was her family. Sorry. Daily Mail reports:

A Harry Potter actress fled her home after her father and brother threatened to kill her for going out with a Hindu man, a court heard yesterday. Afshan Azad, 22, who appeared in the blockbuster movies as Padma Patil, was attacked and branded a ‘slag’ when Muslim relatives found out about her boyfriend. The actress was so scared that she escaped out of her bedroom window and later fled her home city. He added: ‘The reason for the assault, apparently her association with a Hindu man, that apparently being disapproved of by her family who are Muslim.’ Mr Vardon said Abul Azad had been woken up by his son, Ashraf, shouting: ‘Sort out your daughter! She’s a slag.’ He went on: ‘He continued to further assault her, shouting, “Just kill her!”’ Reading from the victim’s statement, the prosecutor added: ‘My father began saying he would do it, a reference to kill her, as he did not want his sons to have her blood on their hands and he would do time for it. Then she began to feel very scared.’

This is normally the time when I gloat and tell you that you should never disagree with me, but as much as I like sweeping generalizations, I know this isn’t the time or place for that. But some truths should be self-evident. Like you know not to bother reaching for your insurance information when a car load of Mexicans hit your car, because they’ll already be out of the car and hopping a fence before you do. You know that when a white woman ends up missing, the police will eventually find her chopped up in her husband’s shoebox. You know that when you see a black woman behind a counter, she might not be the most helpful. And you know that every time I come around your city, bling bling. Pinky ring worth about 50, bling bling.

“Her Muslim Family Did Not Approve Of Her Relationship With A Hindu Man”

UPDATE: Ok, this is my last post on this. Instead of asking why this defenseless girl was almost murdered by her own family, it’s become a flame war over culture vs. religion. Fine, it’s a cultural thing. It just so happens that it’s a cultural thing with people where Islam is the primary religion (Southeast, Asia, Middle East, and North Africa). Look, killing someone because of their race, sexual orientation, or because the waiter they were banging returned a pair of eyeglasses is horrific and wrong. But you know what’s more horrific and wrong? Killing a child you raised because she might have offended you somehow by wanting to wear a bikini or a having relationship with a Hindi man. Sorry. Call it want you want, but it is what it is.

An honor killing is the murder of a (typically female) family or clan member by one or more fellow (mostly male) family members, in which the perpetrators (and potentially the wider community) believe the victim to have brought dishonor upon the family, clan, or community. The perceived dishonor is normally the result of the following behaviors, or the suspicion of such behaviors: (a) utilizing dress codes unacceptable to the family/community, (b) wanting to terminate or prevent an arranged marriage or desiring to marry by own choice, or (c) engaging in certain sexual acts, including those with the opposite or same sex. Such killings or attempted killings result from the perception that the defense of honor justifies killing a person whose behavior dishonors their own clan or family.

Oh, by the way, the reason why Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad’s family tried to kill her is now known. Man, what a perfectly good reason that had nothing to do with religion or a map at all!

She was attacked on May 21 because her Muslim family did not approve of her relationship with a Hindu man. They reportedly threatened to kill her if she did not back out of the relationship.

Wait, there’s more. Daily Mail reports:

[Her father and brother] appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and the case was adjourned until July 12 for committal proceedings to crown court. They had been in custody until this week’s court appearance when they were bailed. As part of their bail conditions, they have to abide by an 11pm to 6am curfew and must not travel to London or contact an unnamed man.

Man, I’m so glad all of you gave me geography lessons. I feel so much better about calling her Asian now. Awesome. Now back to the part of the story that actually matters. Her Muslim family tried to kill her because she was dating a Hindu man. Yeah, that sounds reasonable. Is this Hindu man a Sith Lord? Does he kill prostitutes in Whitechapel? I’m gonna take a wild stab and say no. If I feel bad for anyone it’s got to be the father and the brother. They’re not really good Muslims if they can’t kill a defenseless girl right. They might want to turn in their boxcutters and sucide vests, because I don’t think Allah has any virgin boys waiting for them.

See The One On The Left? Her Family Tried To Kill Her

Afshan Azad, who plays Padma in the Harry Potter films, was attacked by her father and brother at her home in Manchester. They also threatened to kill her. Why? Let’s jump to conclusions and find out! The Sun reports:

Pretty Afshan Azad, 23 — who plays Padma Patil in the hit films — was allegedly attacked at her home in Manchester. Her father Abul Azad, 54, and brother Ashraf Azad, 28, appeared at Manchester magistrates’ court on Tuesday accused of threatening to kill Afshan. Ashraf is also charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The case was adjourned until later this month for committal proceedings to crown court. Afshan is said to have been attacked at her home in Longsight, Manchester, on May 21 this year. The beauty was studying for her AS levels at Xaverian College in Rusholme, Manchester, when she was first cast in the 2005 film Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire. She has since appeared in three more of the wizard movies and is in Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows, due for release next year. She plays Padma, a witch who is in the same year as Harry at Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft And Wizardry, and is the identical twin sister of Parvati Patil, played by actress Shefila Chowdhury.

So, the article says she’s Asian, but her name is Afshan Azad, her father’s name is Abdul, and her brother’s name is Ashraf. I know a lot of Asians, and I’ve never heard a name like that. So, let’s assume they’re from the Middle East. Let’s also assume they’re Muslim. And let’s assume again that this was an attempted honor killing. And you wonder why we bomb the shit out of the Middle East. I’d rather let Joran Vandersloot take my sister out than her marry some dude named Abdul. If you think this is racist, why don’t you talk to Sally Field. She wanted to leave Iran, but not without her daughter!

Note: We can argue semantics if you want, but for the sake of argument, she’s Asian. Her family isn’t Muslim. So why did they try to kill her? Did she give away the family’s secret baked bean recipe? Is she possessed by a demon? Fill me in.
